VALHALLA VIKING BAR

Hello everyone! For this new post of our blog we have decided to head south of the city, specifically to the neighborhood of San Telmo, known for its bohemian atmosphere, full of tourists and its infinite selection of bars. This time in the heart of the neighborhood tells the legend that a Viking invasion has arrived to storm the capital’s night. Invasion that takes the name of “Valhalla Viking Bar”. It had opened its doors just a couple of weeks ago, occupying the space of the old “Rubik Bar”,  in such a short time managed to settle in the mouth those who frequent San Telmo at night.

“Valhalla Bar” is born as an adventure between three friends, who despite having all different backgrounds, decide to embark on the construction of the dream that we all had some time, between talk and chat with friends, building and setting up a bar. It is among these talks that the idea of setting up a Viking thematic bar (a special feature that distinguishes Valhalla) was born. As it is said by its name “Valhalla”, it is a meeting and celebration place as described by the old Viking mythology, as one of its owners tells us,     Facundo; “Valhalla bar is the glorious hall where the gods meet with the dead in battle, to celebrate, a place of union to go all together to the battle of the end of the world.”

Upon entering the bar you can immediately notice the care that their owners to built the ambience of the place. A huge door of 3 meters of wood and a Drakkar (traditional Viking boat) functioning as space for boxes, as well as a large communal table as it appears in mythology. Different murals and war shields decorate the walls and all the waiters and bartenders are dressed in traditional costumes.

The ambience, the different Valhalla Bar

Now, a good bar can not be just setting, clearly the beer and food are the center of the matter. Here Valhalla does not disappoint either, since in the area of drinking he offers us 8 taps of Patagonia and Aldea beer. This last craft brewery in Buenos Aires produces two exclusive beers for Valhalla; smoked and stout. So, to try these two varieties of beers is indispensable to come to Valhalla, a very special detail. From the most thematic side we can find two drinks that can hardly be found elsewhere; Hidromiel (a distilled fermented honey of high alcoholic strength and sweetness) and Swallows in horns, yes yes, as they read drinks in horns as a Viking warrior, 3 different according to a god, only! In relation to this last drink in horn Facundo tells us; “We want you to pass this door of 3.20 meters, sit down ans feel our world.”

Now we have to talk about something that really stands out in relation to the rest of the offer of bars in San Telmo is the Valhalla bar kitchen. In this aspect they deviate somewhat from the traditional hamburger + pint recipe to offer us something new and hard to find; Sea food, especially Scandinavian cuisine. As an example of this we find; the fishing of the day which is a salmon special, or the Viking bite which brings different types of bread covered with a special curing of salmon, lamb or loin. According to its owners Valhalla is a resto with capital letters. Due to the approach that has given to have a variety of cuisine and especially quality. Despite being a place that have just opened its doors, Valhalla already seems to be on the way to becoming one of the must-see in San Telmo. For its attention to detail, the ambince and aspecially for daring to give a different and unique proposal.

Valhalla has a happy hour from 6 to 8 and opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 6pm.
